New ANSI Recommendations for Prescription Ophthalmic Lenses Released

The Vision Council today announced that the ANSI – American National Standards Institute Accredited Standards Committee (ASC) Z80 has released ANSI Z80.1-2020, Prescription Ophthalmic Lenses – Recommendations.

This standard applies to all prescription dress ophthalmic spectacle lenses in edged or assembled form. It is a guideline for entities that fabricate, assemble or process dress eyewear or lens components. Relevant optical and physical specifications and tolerances of this standard also apply to uncut lenses.

Developing standards for lenses is a key component to The Vision Council’s technical initiatives. Contributing groups include the Lens Technical Committee, the Data Communication Standard Committee, the Country of Origin for Lenses Committee, and the Lens Product Description Standard Committee.
